This is a nothing diary, admitted to up front and willing to take down upon requests if I deem necessary (reserving the rights to my own independence). There is so much Oscar "buzz" and though I admittedly would score very low on any "knows what's going on and is hip" poll (as well as acknowledging my limited ability to conduct an intelligent Search), still I wonder at the dearth of posts available here the the Orange Satan on indie films and awards vs Oscars. I live in a place where indie films are not easily or conveniently accessed vs an area where I frequently visit which has at least two independent cinemas which, although also showing some mainstream films, very much support the indies.
Thanks to my housemate's largesse, I am able to TIVO LOTS of STUFF and am just now viewing the recent Indie Spirit Awards. My take is that the indie films which are the beneficiaries of rather mainstream marketing appear to have at least a bit of an edge.
Why? Thank you for asking -- imho, 'cause marketing, $$$, and (perhaps as a result of) the difficulty of access for ordinary, non-moviephiles to them. Jes' sayin'. But, I wonder, ammiright?
